compassionate living

HUMANE ACTION Pittsburgh's Compassionate Living campaign encourages people to adopt a vegan diet and lifestyle for any reasons that may inspire them, including improving their health, protecting the environment, or saving animals from unnecessary suffering and cruelty.
HAP proudly supports the international Meatless Monday campaign, which inspires people to refrain from eating meat every Monday. In May 2016, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, in collaboration with HAP, became the first mayor in the country to make a proclamation declaring that every Monday in 2016 should be meatless. He also took the Meatless Monday pledge himself, with members of Pittsburgh City Council following suit in August 2017.
HAP's Compassionate Living team has successfully helped add vegan options at many local schools and organizations, including Point Park University, Carnegie Mellon University, Mount Lebanon School District, UPMC, and PNC Park. In September 2017, HAP partnered with the Pittsburgh Pirates to host the inaugural Vegan Night at PNC Park, the first vegan night at any major league sporting event in the country.
HAP has also developed a Compassionate Events campaign to celebrate animal and environmental organizations that have taken meat off of their menus at fundraisers and other events. If you represent an organization that has committed to only serving vegan and/or vegetarian meals at events and would like to become one of our Compassionate Events Partners, please fill out our online form.

HAP has also developed a Compassionate Farming guide for meat and dairy farmers interested in converting their farms to more sustainable enterprises.
HAP seeks to inspire and educate the population about the many benefits of maintaining a compassionate lifestyle and are dedicated to spreading awareness to compassionate living throughout our area.
